I don’t have a formal background in moviemaking, but it was something I wanted to pursue since graduating from Lafayette in 2016. After teaming up with my friend, Aaron Dowd, we set out to make a documentary about what we knew best: rowing.
Our idea was to understand why anyone would willingly take up a sport where the gap between training, difficulty, and viewership is maybe the widest. Of course, both of us had been rowers for more than a decade and couldn’t answer that.
Having rowed since high school, we had loads of team contacts, so asking clubs to participate was not challenging. In all, more than 20 crews agreed to be filmed and more than 10 were featured in the final product.
